Josi Khatarina

Josi Khatarina is an expert in environmental governance with more than 20 years of experience in public policy development and advocacy, legal research, facilitation, and program management. Her expertise spans forest governance, environmental law, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and inclusive, evidence-based sustainable development approaches. She has extensive experience at both national and subnational levels, including regulatory reform, REDD+ policy design, and institutional capacity strengthening. Josi has been involved in formulating key national regulations such as the forest licensing moratorium, peatland protection policies, and the strengthening of Indigenous Peoples’ rights playing a strategic role in integrating environmental issues into public policy. She is also a lecturer at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law and has worked with various national and international institutions, including UNDP, Chemonics, and CIFOR. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. and two LL.M. degrees in environmental law and policy from the University of Melbourne and the University of Kent.
